Sakuyama Chocojiro (Japanese chocolate snack)

I would like to introduce you to a cute little chocolate snack that is very Japanese.

Sakuyama Chocojiro : サク山チョコ次郎

In this blog, I have so far introduced only snacks that have been available in Japan for at least 10 years. Most of them have been in Japan for more than a few decades.

Today, however, I would like to introduce a new snack born in 2017: the Sakuyama Chokojiro.

Sakuyama Chocojiro (Japanese chocolate snack)

Sakuyama Chokojiro is a product name given in the style of a Japanese male name. "Sakuyama" is a surname and "Chokojiro" is a first name. (In fact, in Japan, the surname "something-yama" and the name "something-jiro" are common.)

The person, or animal, or monster depicted on this package is Mr. Sakuyama Chokojiro.

I find the character very Japanese and adorable. This is because strange, funny, cute, and somewhat obscure characters are very popular in Japan. This is Kawaii.

Back to the story, this character is also depicted on the individual packages of Sakuyama Chocojiro. The design is also cartoonishly cute.

On the reverse side, each has different information, including an introduction to Chocojiro.

Looks

Let's take a look at the contents of the bag.

Sakuyama Chocojiro (Japanese chocolate snack)

There were 4 grains in one bag. Mmmm...I feel there are a little less. I wish there were more in the bag... 🥺

But look! Every single one of these chocolates has a different pattern!

There are as many as 30 different patterns. Chocojiro's various expressions are cute.

On the back side, there is a message from Chocojiro. It includes puns about chocolate and his strange accent that ends in "cho" for chocolate.

These can have as many as a hundred different patterns.

The size of each piece is about 1.5 cm. It is neither too small nor too big.

Flavor

Sakuyama's "Saku" means crispy. As the name suggests, crispy cookies are combined with plenty of chocolate.

In my personal opinion, the ratio of the amount of chocolate to the amount of cookies may be a little similar to that of Kinoko No Yama.

About the famous Japanese chocolate snacks, Kinokonoyama and Takenokonosato. I created a food report about these two.

The cookies are much lighter than they appear. The inside is almost airy. That's why you can feel the chocolate taste even more strongly and it is delicious.

It is hard to see in the photo, but there is milk cream between the chocolate and cookie. The milk adds depth to the flavor, making the whole thing very rich and thick.

Sakuyama Chocojiro is made by "Shoei Delicy," which is not a very famous confectionery maker in Japan. However, I believe that the chocolates made by Shoei Delicy are the best in Japan.
As if to back this up, the chocolate in the Sakuyama Chokojiro is also outstandingly delicious.

The cute appearance of Sakuyama Chokojiro might make you imagine it tastes cheap and childish, but it is the exact opposite: it is a snack with a luxurious taste.
You should try it and be surprised at the gap between its appearance and taste. Let's yum yum😋
