POCKY (Japanese chocolate snacks)

POCKY : ポッキー 

Today I would like to introduce you to POCKY. It is a popular chocolate snack that represents Japan.

Packaging

The image color of Pocky is this bright red. The design has changed in many ways, but this red color has always remained the same.
The product name "Pocky" comes from the "pokin" sound it makes when eaten. "Pokin" is a Japanese onomatopoeia used when a hard stick-like object breaks.

Also, mainly in Europe, Pocky is sold under the brand name MIKADO. The name Mikado is said to be derived from the name of a game that was popular at the time, but I don't know what it is. In Japan, the word Mikado refers to the emperor.

Note that when I bought this pocky, they were in collaboration with a Capcom game, Street Fighter 2, so they had illustrations from that game on them. 

The individual wrappers inside also had characters from the game on them. I like Blanka, by the way🇧🇷

Looks

I think Pocky was more tightly packed when I was a kid, but it's sad that the cost has increased and the number seems to be decreasing😭

A long, thin stick of pretzel is covered with chocolate. The chocolate is not covered on the edges, so you can eat it without getting your hands dirty.

I feel that the popularity of Japanese snacks is greatly influenced by the ability to eat them without getting your hands or surroundings dirty.

Flavor 

As the name suggests, they make a delightful snap sound when you bite into them. I find myself munching on them like a squirrel on a crunchy nut. The thinness of the pretzel is also very satisfying.

The chocolate is rich and bitter. The aftertaste is fragrant with cocoa. The savory and salty taste of the pretzel goes well with the chocolate.

They do not get your hands dirty and are perfect for a quick break. It's nice to have them with you when you go out for a cup of tea.
I think I'll bring Pocky when I go to see the cherry blossoms🌸
